$67 to upgrade from United Economy to United Domestic First Class...is it worth it?
My flight is from SMF (Sacramento) to ORD during the afternoon. My United Mileage account is about 450 miles short of a 15,000 mile upgrade from Domestic Economy to Domestic First Class. A 1,000 mile purchase from the United Website is $67. I'm hearing horror stories of "snack boxes" being passed out on United's domestic first class. Is it worth it?

The upgrade to 1st Class for $67 is worth it. However, that will also wipe out the mileage in your account, and it's only a 4-hour flight. If you travel frequently you might want to hang on to the miles for an upgrade on a longer trip, or maybe a free ticket (at 25,000 miles). Decisions, decisions.......

Yes. For one, you'll have more room. Two, you'll get on and off first. Three, it's just a whole lot more comfortable. Four...if you want something to drink...you'll get it. Five...easier access to the toilet if nature should call. For me, a few dollars for a few hours of civility and comfort is a wise investment. I can actually relax and be comfortable in first class, while in economy, legroom stinks, and I'm usually wedged in like a sardine.

I'm not sure if I would spend my miles so easily. Save them and use them to fly anywhere overseas in business or first! My rule of thumb is anywhere in North America I will fly economy, other than that, it's at least in business class!
