Does Sacramento get dense Fog in January

Does Sacramento get dense Fog in January?
I'm planning a trip to Seattle from Southern California in January. I have to change planes in Sacramento around 8am in the mourning. Should I have to worry about flight cancelations due to fog in Sacramento?

Not worth worrying about. It does happen frequently but usually burns off mid morning. Be prepared for a delay just in case. BTW, there are many low cost direct flights between Seattle & southern California, check out Virgin America & jet Blue for some really great prices! Good Luck!

It can happen. It's called Tule Fog, and it can be the thickest fog you have ever seen. Growing up, I remember some that was only about 50 yards of visibility. Just keep a good thought.

It was pretty foggy this morning. 12/30/08. But with most of new technology it is very rare that flights in and out of SMF get canceled because of fog.

This morning was the foggiest I've seen it in a couple of years, and the radio reported "no delays at the airport" which shocked me. I guess they're really prepared for the fog. I can't predict the weather, but it looks like the airport really has it together this year. I wish you luck.

You should be concerned by not necessarily be worried about plane cancellations due to fog in Sacramento. Early morning flights are more affected than afternoon flights. I have had a flight can celled until the next day when I was going to Vegas from the Sac Metro Airport. It is always foggy in Sacramento and the Sacto areas in January. Always foggy on New Year's Eve. It was foggy last night. I was the Designated Driver in our group. I drove us home and was well aware of the fog condition. Call the airlines to find out alternate plans just incase and you will relieve some of your concern by knowing what you will need to do if you have an issue. The Airline and airport will have weather updates available for you.

Generally, December is the worst fog month. January is our frost month. I do not remember SMF being shut down in January because of fog in the past 22 years that I've live in the area. However, past performance is no guarantee of future performance. Just check into the National Weather Service in Sacramento before the flight to calm your nerves.
