Flight to Europe turbulent

Flight to Europe turbulent?
Is the flight to Europe (from Sacramento) turbulent? I know that some areas like flying to Minnesota can be really turbulent but generally is the flight across the pond really bumpy? I am afraid to fly and I am going in July so I just want to know what to expect thanks!

It IS turbulent (I won't lie). I'm also afraid of flying but I've been to Europe about 7 times (from Los Angeles). I always worry and am a bit afraid but don't worry--flying is the safest way to travel, you'll be fine. I take a sedative or a few glasses of wine (and water because you get dehydrated) and I get through the flight (nyquil also helps if you want to sleep through it). Good luck (the turbulence is well worth it).

The HONEST TRUTH: turbulence depends on whether or not you are traveling in spring, summer, fall, or winter. There will not be much turbulence if you are flying in the summer, but there will be much turbulence if you are traveling around the winter because of the windy conditions and icy weather( snow and freezing rain)... If you are traveling in the summer, weather delays will be least likely ( considering that you are on the west coast) and the weather is at neither extreme. *** If you are traveling in the Summer and there happens to be thunderstorm conditions, there will be turbulence but not much. The larger the aircraft, the less likely you are to feel the turbulence ----the more engines that are on the aircraft, the less likely you are to have turbulence

Looks like the Air France plane that crashed last week was caught in a severe thunderstorm and that brought it down so of course there is a chance but it all depends on the latest weather conditions. I have flown across the Atlantic several times and have only expperianced turbulance once .

Any long flight is likely to encounter turbulence at some point, but most of the flight will be smooth. Turbulence is most common in the vicinity of clouds, over mountains, and sometimes at high altitudes when moving into or out of jet streams. It is highly unpredictable, though, and can show up just about anywhere. Usually it is mild.

I flew across the pond and back last year; the only time there was any turbulence at all was when we flew over lakes or coastlines, and even then, it wasn't bad. Just a little bit bumpy.

Turbulence is caused by different air pressures inside and outside the plane. Turbulence does not just appear on a certain route. Turbulence can happen to any aircraft at any time (but mostly at high altitudes). If the plane just bumps, enjoy it =). I just make myself think that i'm on a roller coaster! - of course the turbulence is nowhere near as violent as a roller coaster or simulation ride :P
