Can i travel with a new packaged phone in my luggage on my flight?

I have a new phone its still packaged, i bought for my gf and i just want to know if i can take it cuz i dont want them to take it away? im flying from LA to Sacramento?

Yeah, why wouldn't you be able to? Are they saying you can't bring your phones on flights anymore?

Sure you can. The TSA only requires that you don't gift wrap presents just in case that might want to look at it, otherwise it's absolutely fine. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/holiday.shtm

As the others have pointed out it is absolutely fine to travel with this in either hand or hold luggage. I would urge you to not to pack it in hold (checked) luggage though as it could be damaged or stolen when out of your sight. Take it in hand luggage.
