Can I hire a pilot to fly me from a small airport to a larger one? And about how much would it cost?
I would like to fly from modesto to sacramento and then take a flight from there. I was wondering how much a flight might cost from MOD to SMF? And how would I do it? Do I go to the airport and ask the pilots directly?

That's a pretty short flight, and certainly anything that flies can accomplish it. If you know a pilot personally, yes, you can certainly ask. But if you walk up to a pilot that you don't know, he or she cannot legally accept payment for making the trip. A really nice person may volunteer to take you there, and you can split the cost of the fuel (probably about 15 gallons for the round trip in a small, single engine airplane), but a pilot may not accept any kind of payment for that service. What you can do is charter an airplane through an air charter provider. Most planes available for charter are larger and not very efficient for a flight of that length. That would probably cost you way more than you are willing to pay (probably at least $500, depending on what airplanes are available and where they are based). Here's an "outside the box" idea if you have any interest in this. You could go to the local flight school ad Modesto (they do have one!) and you can rent an airplane and an instructor and take your first flying lesson to SMF! You would have to pay for the airplane and instructor for the round trip. It would probably be $150-200ish for this option.

Since you are not really going to smf, but only taking a flight there to somewhere else, why don't you just fly mod-lax or mod-sfo nonstop on UA? If you really need to go mod-smf nonstop, you can ask around people who work in modesto. Many companies have corporate jets and you might be able to hitch a ride.

you would have to charter a plane, big money or ask at your local airport, maybe they have a service running
