What happens when you get "SSSS" on boarding pass at LAX

What happens when you get "SSSS" on boarding pass at LAX?
I've had this happen to me before at Sacramento International Airport, and all they did was pat me down and swab everything in my purse, then put the swabs in a machine. I figured it's because I got a one-way ticket. I'm flying one-way again, leaving from LAX, and I was wondering if they do basically the same thing as SAC? I'll probably be arriving at the airport with not much time before the flight, and I'm just worried they'll do even more and take up more time. Thanks.

If you are not a frequent traveler, one way pass will get you "flagged!" Carry less items with you, take your stuff out early such as 311 plastic bag, your shoes, and laptop etc. Sometimes I have seen that once the ID checker guy sees SSSS flag, he will direct the person in a different aisle which happens to be not too crowded (specially made for flagged passenger).... where as all crowd waits in their line. You may get out even earlier! Remember to comply and dont get upset. They are doing their job.

When you receive the SSSS on your boarding pass, you have been selected for additional screening. This happens if you buy a one-way ticket or pay for your ticket in cash or your original flight was canceled and they put you on another airline. It is nothing to worry about and I would arrive at the airport a little earlier just in case.
