Points of interest between Sacramento and Lodi, CA

Points of interest between Sacramento and Lodi, CA?
A friend and I are flying into Sacramento for a cat show our cats are in in in Lodi. Just realized that even with the hour drive to Lodi we're going to be there about three hours before we can check in for the show. Later flights would have got us there too late, though. Anything particularly interesting to check out along the way from Sacramento to Lodi? Oh and if you like cats come out to the Grape Festival Fairgrounds this weekend - there'll be loads of 'em! Thanks! LOL about the wineries! I can just see us show up all liquored up for the show "Theesh eesh my cat Mocha.. eeshn't she (hic) pretttttty?"

There are more than 25 wineires located in and around Lodi where you can go wine tasting. This area is especially known for their wonderful Zinfandel, but you will find many other great wines at these wineries. For info on Lodi Wineries visit http://www.cheers2wine.com.

As a 25 year resident of Sacramento, I can let you know that there are not a lot of things that are must see. You really do not indicate what you would like to see. With that in mind I have a couple of suggestions. Old Sacramento is a tourist mecca. It sits on the waterfront on the Sacramento River. This is the first place most of the original 49er's saw when they arrived here for the Gold Rush. Many of the original buildings from that time period are still there. But now there are lots of gift shops. But if you have time and the weather is nice, Lunch at the Rio City Cafe is a treat, get a seat on the deck overlooking the river. There are also lots of different museums, some small some large. The best is the Railroad museum. The best in the country. Get off of I-5 at J street and follow the signs. Here is a link. http://www.csrmf.org/ Another suggestion would be a visit of the State Capitol Building. It is a gem. I walk through the building and the grounds surrounding it are something I even do just about every year. I always find something different. The Viet Nam Veterans Memorial is very nice. Again get off of I-5 on J street and follow the signs. Here is a link. http://capitolmuseum.ca.gov/ Good luck with the cat show. And yea I would save the wineries for after the show. Lodi is a premier wine growing region. Just remember Niel Young got stuck there once.

Ummm, well honestly...if you roll down your windows you can smell the cows... There's not much to see out there but farmland after you get past Elk Grove which is right next to Sacramento.

In between the cities is wildlife refuge and viewing areas but that is about all. I would suggest going to the museums in and around the Capitol. Walk through Old Sacramento for period shops and goods. Lodi has some smelly feed lots beside I-5 that you won't be able to miss. Enjoy your visit.
