How do I postpone my flight with Delta?
I'm suppose to go to NYC for my 21st birthday from Sacramento, but I need to postpone it for Spring Break. Does anyone know how to cancel this flight? Preferably online.... Also are there gonna be any weird fee's? I'm worried. The flight isn't until October 2nd. Thanks.

You need to contact Delta before the flight is scheduled to leave to make your arrangements with them -- if you wait until after your scheduled flight departs, your ticket will automatically cancel and become worthless. At the point that you do contact them, you will have two options: 1) You can ask them to change the flights to the dates you need when you call. The airline will charge you the change fee that applies to the ticket, as well as any difference between what you paid and the cost of the new ticket. Typically, the change fee on a nonrefundable domestic ticket can be as high as $150, so expect that you'll pay at least that amount to make the change. 2) If you can't afford to make the change now, you can ask them to cancel the ticket now and then, when you can afford to pay for the new ticket, use the value of the cancelled ticket towards the new ticket. Delta won't charge you an up-front fee for cancelling the ticket -- rather, the change fee is deducted from the value of the ticket before it is applied to the cost of the new ticket at the time that you book the new ticket. (Keep in mind that tickets do tend to increase as you get closer to the travel date, so it's possible that you'll end up paying more if you wait than if you make the changes to the ticket now.) In either event, you may be better off calling Delta to make these arrangements -- while it is possible to change DL tickets online, as is noted on the page linked below, calling them may be the easier way to arrange a situation where you cancel the ticket and use the value at a later date.
