Will I have to claim my bags at O'Hare and check them again?
This is my first time traveling alone, and Im flying over seas and am unsure of what the procedure is. Im flying from Sacramento to Chicago on United, and switching to Aer Lingus to Dublin. Will my bags have to be claimed at Chicago and then checked in with AL? Or will they be transferred automatically to my next flight? Like I said this is my first time traveling alone so any information will help!

when I fly United to Germany twice a year, they transfer the luggage in Portland onto Lufthansa, without me having to claim them. but if you should leave the security section during your delay you will have to go through screening again and also make sure to check with Aer Lingus before you go on to your new flight. have fun

If the tickets were booked as connections, then no, you won't have to retrieve them. You're good, and have fun. If you booked them separately, then yes you will have to get them, and good luck at O'Hare.

Check your bags through to your final destination at your point of departure!
