what are requirements for flying with an infant

what are requirements for flying with an infant?
Can they be held, or are they required to be strapped into a car seat, is a diaper bag considered a carry on? what about the stroller? The infant in question is one month old Also, I know that our ears tend to "pop" while in flight, will the infants also? Is that dangerous for such a young baby?....The trip is from Sacramento California to Lincoln Nebraska

If you choose to have your infant in a seat, you would have to pay for that seat. So yes, the infant can travel safely in your lap. If you choose to purchase a seat for the infant, it is wise to carry a carseat for your child to be placed safely in. A diaper bag is considered a carryon. You can take a stroller also and both items are exempt from the carryon policy. Yes, what ever you're feeling in flight the baby will experience also, so a trick to use so that your baby doesn't experience that discomfort, is to feed your child at take off and landing. You can also use a Nuk if your child uses one. Don't worry, you and your baby will be fine.

Also, if you plan to take your baby on your lap, you must call your airline and tell them ahead of time as they are required to have the child's name on the passenger list...cannot just show up with him. Lok onyour airlines site for info on travelling with infants/children. See site below to see Unites's policies as an example.

it depends on which airline you fly with. You can travel with the infant on your lap, or you could just buy a seat and place the baby in a car seat (NO BOOSTERS), now some airlines are flexible.. If the flight is not full they might just give you the seat for the baby free of charge at the airline's discretion, and same with the diaper bag. The baby can be taken in the stroller all the way to the airplane door, there, an airlines employe will tag it and take it down with the rest of luggage. When you arrive at ur destination, they should bring it up to you, it takes a few minutes, so you might wanna wait in the jetway for them 2 bring it up to u. As far as the pressurization, just feed the baby, especially during take off until u reach ur cruising altitud, and on final descend. Have a safe trip!
